Tom Hammond was a good friend. He had a great enthusiasm for life and his work at WLBC. I always used to look forward to our interviews because he had such an uncanny ability to make people comfortable; afterwards, we would talk for sometimes up to 20 or more minutes about Ball State's football or basketball teams, Southside High School or whatever was going on with the Cincinnati Reds. We prayed fervently for his recovery last week--the news that he had died fell like a hammer. We will be in prayer for Tom's family, the WLBC staff who cared so much for him, and for all those who, like me, were touched by this extraordinary man with a warm, outgoing personality.
